Information on the 2024 HEALING Meeting - Invitation to Apply

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the upcoming HEALING (Hemostasis research Enhancement And Learning Initiative Group) meeting, an integral part of AHCDC’s broader initiative to catalyze collaborative research in bleeding disorders across Canada. The 2024 HEALING meeting will be held on February 28, 2025, in Toronto, ON (venue TBD).

About the HEALING Meeting

HEALING is designed to support early-career and junior investigators by providing a platform for in-depth brainstorming, project initiation, and mentorship. It aims to nurture new research ideas, expand collaborative networks, and refine projects that address the evolving needs in bleeding disorders care. Specifically, HEALING provides:

1. In-person Mentorship and Collaboration: A unique opportunity for face-to-face engagement on key topics, including youth care, women’s health, and aging in bleeding disorders.

2. Project Development Support: Focused sessions to identify and develop new research ideas that address current clinical challenges.

3. Professional Networking: Access to experienced mentors and a network of peers to support future research goals and collaborations.

The HEALING meeting is structured as an in-person brainstorming and mentoring event to support proposal development and facilitate knowledge translation. If successful, the goal is to hold this event annually.

CHIRP Grant Opportunity

Following the HEALING meeting, participants will have the opportunity to submit funding requests to the Collaborative Hemostasis Initiative and Research Program (CHIRP). This grant is part of AHCDC’s Collaborative Research Initiative, designed to support investigator-initiated projects across Canada prioritizing country-wide/multicentered projects. Selected projects will be eligible for financial support to further develop and implement their research. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to present their projects at the AHCDC Annual General Meeting (AGM), where they can receive feedback from our national membership and advertise their project to encourage national collaboration/participation.

Eligibility and Application Criteria

Participation in the HEALING meeting is limited to AHCDC members or those actively collaborating with AHCDC members on a bleeding disorders research project. The selection criteria are as follows:

- Attendance: We aim to select 10-15 participants. Early-career clinicians, researchers, and trainees actively working on a project with an AHCDC member are encouraged to apply.

- Research Project Summary: Interested candidates should submit a maximum 500-word summary of their research project or idea. This summary should outline the project goals, its relevance to bleeding disorders care, and areas where mentorship would be beneficial.

- Selection Process: Submissions will be reviewed by the HEALING chairs and members of the AHCDC research committee. Senior researchers and mentors will be invited directly by the chairs.

How to Apply

Please submit your project summary to admin.ahcdc@gallaher.ca by January 6, 2025. Travel and accommodations will be covered for selected participants.

We encourage you to apply for this opportunity to develop, share, and advance research ideas in a collaborative environment. HEALING and the CHIRP grant offer a comprehensive pathway to refine and fund research projects that can significantly impact the field of bleeding disorders. If you have any questions about eligibility or the application process, please feel free to contact us.
